The paper presents the effect of O3 depletion on night airglow emission of Na 5893 Å line at Dumdum (22.5°N, 88.5°E), India and Halley Bay (76°S, 27°W), a British Antarctic service station. Calculations based on chemical kinetics show that the airglow intensity of Na 5893 Å line will also be affected due to the depletion of O3 concentration. The nature of yearly variation and seasonal variation of the intensity of Na 5893 Å line for the above two stations are shown and compared. It is shown that the rate of decrease of intensity of Na 5893 Å line is comparatively more at Halley Bay due to the dramatic decrease of Antarctic O3 concentration. A possible explanation for this dramatic decrease of Antarctic O3 concentration is also mentioned. 相似文献

We studied the role that submersed aquatic vegetation (SAV) plays in the sedimentation of organic matter (OM) and phosphorus
(P) in Lake Panasoffkee, Florida (USA), a shallow, hard-water, macrophyte-dominated water body. Carbon/Nitrogen ratios (C/N)
and stable isotope signatures (δ13C and δ15N) in algae, higher plants, and surface sediments were measured to identify sources of OM to the lake mud. Pollen, plant macrofossils,
and geochemistry in sediment cores indicated that primary productivity and SAV abundance in Lake Panasoffkee increased in
the late 1800s, probably as a response to increased P loading from human settlement and forest clearance. SAV and associated
periphyton served as temporary sinks for soluble P, maintaining relatively clear-water, low-nutrient conditions in the lake.
P accumulation in Lake Panasoffkee sediments increased together with indicators for greater SAV presence. This suggests that
SAV and associated epiphytes promote P burial and retention in sediments. Although it might be assumed that rooted submersed
macrophytes are directly responsible for P uptake from water and transfer to sediments, C/N and stable carbon isotope results
argue for the importance of other macrophyte growth forms, and perhaps epiphytic algae, in permanent OM and P sequestration.
For instance, high rates of photosynthesis by epiphytes in hard-water systems consume CO2 and promote CaCO3 precipitation. Sloughing of accumulated carbonates from macrophyte leaves transfers epiphytes and associated P to the sediment.
Our paleolimnological findings are relevant to restoration efforts in the Florida Everglades and support the claim that constructed
SAV wetlands remove P from waters effectively. 相似文献

Summary Magnetic variations were recorded along three profiles crossing the southeastern margin of the Bohemian Massif. The data were processed in order to get induction vectors (Wiesevectors) and in-phase and out-of-phase induction vectors (Schmucker-vectors). Several events of field variations were separated into external and internal parts. The same events were also treated by a physical-statistical approach. Taking into account these results, we were able to delineate a zone of electrical inhomogeneity. It is in close relation to the Moravo-Silesian lineament. The depth of the internal anomalous field source was estimated at 20 to 25 km.

Fishes of the carnivorous species Clarias batrachus of different size (length of 12 to 22 cm, weight of 15 … 57 g) were kept in aquaria with and without feeding on fish meal with or without an addition of rice bran, the fish mass having been 15 g/l. Aquaria with the same addition of food pellets were used as the control. The number of colonies of heterotrophic bacteria as well as the M.P.N. of the ammonifying bacteria was higher in the fish-containing aquaria than in the control, and in the fish-containing aquaria the colony number and the number of ammonifying bacteria significantly increased with the size of fishes and with feeding. The heterotrophic bacteria reached the highest numbers 4 h after the beginning, the numbers of ammonifyers increased till the fifth day. Although glacial landscapes have previously been used for the reconstruction of late Quaternary glaciations in the Central Andes, only few data exist for the Eastern Cordillera in Bolivia. Here, we present results from detailed morphostratigraphic mapping and new data of surface exposure dating (SED), optically stimulated luminescence (OSL), and radiocarbon dating (14C) from the Huara Loma Valley, Cordillera de Cochabamba (Bolivia). Discrepancies between individual dating methods could be addressed within the context of a solid geomorphic framework. We identified two major glaciations. The older is not well constrained by the available data, whereas the younger glaciation is subdivided into at least four major glacial stages. Regarding the latter, a first advance dated to ~ 29-25 ka occurred roughly contemporaneous with the onset of the global last glacial maximum (LGM) and was followed by a less extensive (re-)advance around 20-18 ka. The local last glacial maximum (LLGM) in the Huara Loma Valley took place during the humid lateglacial ~ 17-16 ka, followed by several smaller readvances until ~ 10-11 ka, and complete deglaciation at the end of the Early Holocene. 相似文献

The elastic properties of granites from Western Bohemia which we measured and published earlier have been supplemented with measurements of olivine nephelinite from the same region and with data on lherzolitic xenolith from the vicinity of elezný Brod. The set of velocities measured under laboratory conditions has been compared with depth profiles suggested for the purpose of locating seismic swarm events which occur in this region. P-wave velocities were measured under pressures of up to 400 MPa. This pressure corresponds to depths of about 15 km for this region. The data were extrapolated for larger depths. Comparing laboratory measurements and seismic profiles, we can conclude that the rocks under study may be constituents of crust structures. 相似文献
